JANE TURNS 3!!!!

Standard

Jane celebrated her third birthday in Las Vegas. It’s fun having her birthday right after Christmas because we have so many family members around to celebrate with her!

Jane finally got the grasp for birthdays a few months before hers, so she has been asking for months if it is her birthday! She was so excited to wake up on her actual birthday to a ton of balloons and a ton of cousins wishing her happy birthday!

We kept it simple with a Disney Frozen theme (Jane LOVES Frozen!!!!) We had snow-cones, white snowy cotton candy, ice cream and cake. After treats, we opened gifts with cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents. She received lots of “Frozen” items and was very happy about that. It was a wonderful day for a wonderful three year old!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Jane’s special day so special. Happy birthday to the world’s cutest, sweetest, funniest, most wonderful three year old!

Alec turned 9 months old the day after Christmas.

Have I mentioned how sweet and wonderful this boy is??? Well, he is. As he is getting older, he is becoming more and more fun. We can tell that he is going to be quite the funny little guy. He is all about laughing and smiling and happiness. He is such a joy.

009

He has mastered crawling up the stairs, and slowly works his way down a couple as well. He stands for long periods of time independently, and I continue to feel certain we will have an early walker on our hands (like within the next month or so!) He is sporting 8 adorable pearly whites, and has just the most adorable toothy grin.

004

027

He loves his sisters, and enjoys playing with them in their room more than anything. He longs to be outside these days, but it’s just too cold and wet. He is a good little eater, but he still mostly nursing. He has no interest in baby food…at all…so we let him have safe table foods and he is all over that.

087

001

He seems to be quite the parrot, and can repeat back “dada” and he can say “ball.” He loves to play ball and drive little cars across the floor. He is so cute and such a little boy!

018

Because of the holidays, his 9 month appointment will be a little late, so I am not sure his stats. I would estimate that he is tall (ha!) and weighs around 20 pounds. He is growing great and just owns our hearts!

Christmas 2013

Standard

I know I am not going to do the holiday justice with this post. It is so hard for me to keep up with my blog these days. Can I just refer you to my sister’s blog: here? She is way better about it than I am!

We had a wonderful Christmas. Each year we learn a thing or two that we can do to make the next year even better (especially for Megan) and this year was really great. We spent time with both of our families and did lots of fun activities.

Our family ready for Christmas Sunday, or the Sunday before Christmas.

Baby Reese was blessed the Sunday before Christmas. I choose this picture because of Sam looking at his little girl. I am not sure I have known new parents who were more enamored and in love with their baby then Sam and Kaylee are with Reese Rose.

There are many things that we did that aren’t pictured here. So…like I said…visit my sister’s blog. She is waaaay better at documenting than I am. I mostly threw some pictures in here and added some captions. You are welcome, Megan!

As I was writing this post, I realized just how lucky I am that I have so many wonderful family members who work so hard to make our holidays great. With really little effort on my part, wonderful activities are planned, food is prepared, and the season is made so much more magical. Big thanks to my mom, my sister Sarah, my brother Loren, my brother Tad, and my in-laws, for all the many things they did this holiday that made it more special for my little family.

Surgery

Standard

Alec needed surgery for Orchiopexy on December 12th. He and I headed up to Primary Children’s at Riverton in the morning. It was a laparoscopic minor thing, and everything went really smoothly before and after the surgery. They found the issue, and they were able to take care of some things. He will need a second surgery for the Orchiopexy in about a month. While doing the surgery, they found that he has a bulge on his intestine which was causing the problem in the first place. This bulge is called Meckel’s Diverticulum and is only found in 2% of the population. Most of the time it doesn’t cause any problems and most people don’t even know they have it. But when it does cause problems, they can be pretty severe, so they want to remove it. He will have that surgery in 6 months and it will require a three-day hospital stay…definitely not looking forward to that.
009

I was doing pretty well before the surgery. Alec wasn’t allowed to eat for 5 hours beforehand, and I was so worried he would be hungry, but he was just as happy and calm as could be. I had to wash him down and dress him in some surgery scrubs. Then we went to a little waiting area where he played and several doctors and nurses came and explained everything to me. I was fine when they took him away from me, and I felt like everything was going to be ok.

The waiting was definitely the hardest part. And because they discovered the Meckel’s, it took them longer than they had original anticipated. Then when they came to tell me how everything went, they had me go in a private “consultation room” where I waited for quite some time, and then several doctors came in to talk to me. They told me about the bulge, and I was so sure they were going to say it was a tumor or something. I was of course relieved that it was not, but that idea of more surgeries was also disheartening.

After talking with me, I had to continue to wait until Alec was more awake. I was finally feeling very anxious to be with my boy. I had been trying so hard to be brave and not connect this experience with the experiences we had waiting for Jack to get out of surgery, but after so long, I was struggling. When he was finally in my arms and was coming to, I was totally fine and relieved. I just like having my babies in my arms.

The recovery went well. He has three incisions; one on his belly button and two on either side. He didn’t really need pain meds and was back to his happy self within a day or two. I sure love this sweet boy and I am anxious for all these surgeries to be out of the way.

Sweet Jane

Standard

Here’s a little update on Jane these days.

050

One night Jane went to bed a little two year old stinker, and the next day she woke up sweet as apple pie. It was literally overnight that our little two year old outgrew the whining and tantrums and difficulties in communication and all of a sudden she was a new girl. Of course we have always loved her so very much, but this new Jane is pretty.dang.awesome.

072

030

Jane is so much fun. She loves when our entire family is all together and always makes a point of mentioning when “our whole family” is doing something together. Whether it’s riding in the car or sitting around the table or sitting on the couch, she says, “look! it’s our whole family!” She is crazy about each member!

012

084

It did take Jane a little while to warm up to her new baby brother, but now she is so in love with him. She still has her moments where she isn’t super eager to share her things with him or have him in too close proximity, but for the most part, she really enjoys his company.

016

Jane is artistic and creative. She loves playing pretend or coloring or playing with play-doh. She and Megan have a great time playing house or school together, and they get along so well. Megan wasn’t in to imaginative play at all when she was Jane’s age, so it’s been a fun experience for me to witness as well.

On the first Monday in November, I woke up and decided I was going to start potty training with Jane. I don’t know why, since I hate potty training. I didn’t mind having two in diapers, and she wasn’t really showing any interest. I just woke up thinking I needed to try and I felt like she was ready. I think I was mostly thinking that since she would be starting primary right after her third birthday, that maybe she oughta be potty-trained. I don’t know. Anyway, we started potty training on November 4th and I can safely say that it went wonderfully. In a matter of days she was 100% good to go, and only after very few accidents. On day one I put her in a pull-up for nap, and she hated it, so after that she never napped with a pull-up. And for about 3 nights I put a diaper on her and then stopped doing that too because she was always dry. So here we are, 5 weeks later, no diapers, no pull-ups, no accidents (she has wet the bed ONCE.) I still can’t even believe it. A tender mercy for sure.

I can hardly believe that my little baby girl is going to be 3 in just a couple of weeks. I just love her to death and I am so glad she is my daughter.
